Did you know that Albert Einstein was a refugee? This was a guy who escaping the wrath of Hitler on Jewish people before second world war. Mr. Einstein went on to develop one of the two pillars of modern physics – the theory of general relativity. Today, he is celebrated as one of the most ingenious scientists who ever lived. Other notable individuals who once assumed the status of refugee or asylum seeker include the co-founder of Google Sergei Brin, the legendary statesman Henry Kissinger, Ralph Baer, who invented Video Games.
As human beings, we have a noble responsibility to promote the welfare of others. When people come knocking on our doors because they are escaping death and destruction from Syria and other conflict hotspots, the least we can do is give them a helping hand. The UNHCR says that the refugee crisis today is worse than at any other time in the history of the world. That means that our voices are more important today than at any other time. We need to contact our elected representatives to see what they can do to help with the global refugee situation.
The Refugee Council USA is just that, a dedicated site that promotes education on refugee crisis, and voices for acceptance of refugees in countries where they will be safer and more comfortable. We know that a significant deal of people seeking asylum abroad are children with no adults accompanying them. Refugees just didn’t anything wrong – they just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. And that’s why we do not relent!
